Publication Ethics

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the publication of scholarly works on community service and community engagement. The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and academic integrity throughout the publication process.

This Publication Ethics Policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, editorial board members, and other parties involved in the publication process. The policy is developed with reference to the principles of ethical scholarly publishing promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

1. Principles of Publication Ethics

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif is committed to ensuring that all articles are published through a fair, transparent, and responsible editorial process.

Editorial decisions are based on the quality, relevance, originality, clarity, and contribution of the manuscript to the field of community service and community engagement. Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by the author's nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, political views, or other personal characteristics.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, manipulation of citations, inappropriate authorship, or other forms of academic and publication misconduct.

2. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Abdi Inovatif are responsible for ensuring that:

  1. The manuscript is original and has not been published previously.

  2. The manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.

  3. All individuals who have made substantial contributions to the work are appropriately recognized as authors or contributors.

  4. All listed authors have approved the submitted and final versions of the manuscript.

  5. The manuscript accurately describes the community service activities, implementation process, outcomes, and impacts.

  6. Information, data, tables, figures, photographs, and other materials presented in the manuscript are accurate and have not been fabricated or falsified.

  7. All sources and materials obtained from other works are appropriately cited and acknowledged.

  8. The authors disclose relevant funding and potential conflicts of interest.

  9. Necessary permissions and consent have been obtained from community partners or participants when required.

  10. Personal and sensitive information concerning community members is appropriately protected.

  11. Any significant error discovered after publication is promptly reported to the editor.

Authors are fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts.

3. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should reflect substantial contributions to the conception, planning, implementation, evaluation, analysis, documentation, or preparation of the manuscript.

Individuals who have made substantial intellectual or practical contributions should be appropriately recognized. Individuals who have provided limited assistance should be acknowledged where appropriate rather than listed as authors.

All authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to be accountable for the work.

Any request to add, remove, or change the order of authors after submission must be justified and approved by all authors. The editor may request written confirmation from all authors before approving such changes.

4. Ethics in Community Engagement

Because Jurnal Abdi Inovatif publishes articles concerning community service activities, authors are expected to conduct activities with respect for the dignity, rights, safety, privacy, and interests of community members and partner organizations.

Authors should:

  • respect the social, cultural, religious, and local context of the community;

  • avoid activities that may cause unnecessary physical, psychological, social, or economic harm;

  • provide appropriate information about the objectives and procedures of the community service activity;

  • obtain permission from relevant community partners or institutions when necessary;

  • protect participants from unnecessary identification or exposure; and

  • report the implementation and outcomes of activities honestly and transparently.

When an activity involves vulnerable groups, children, personal data, or other ethically sensitive circumstances, authors must comply with applicable institutional and legal requirements.

5. Consent and Use of Photographs, Videos, and Personal Data

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission or consent for the use and publication of photographs, videos, interviews, testimonials, personal information, or other identifiable materials involving community members.

Photographs or videos should not expose participants to unnecessary risks, embarrassment, discrimination, or other adverse consequences.

Where individuals can be identified, authors should obtain appropriate consent for publication unless the material is legitimately available for public use and its publication does not infringe privacy or other rights.

Personal data collected during community service activities must be handled responsibly and in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements.

6. Originality, Plagiarism, and Duplicate Publication

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif considers plagiarism and duplicate or redundant publication to be serious violations of publication ethics.

Plagiarism includes presenting another person's words, ideas, data, images, methods, or other intellectual contributions as one's own without appropriate attribution.

The journal may use plagiarism or similarity-detection software as part of its editorial screening process. However, similarity results are subject to editorial assessment and do not automatically constitute plagiarism.

Manuscripts may be rejected if significant plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of inappropriate reuse are identified.

If such misconduct is discovered after publication, the journal may issue a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction depending on the seriousness of the case.

7. Research and Publication Misconduct

The journal considers the following practices to constitute misconduct:

  • fabrication of data or activity results;

  • falsification or manipulation of data;

  • plagiarism;

  • duplicate or redundant publication;

  • inappropriate authorship or authorship manipulation;

  • manipulation of citations;

  • fabrication or manipulation of photographs or documentation;

  • false claims regarding community service activities or their outcomes;

  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;

  • manipulation of the peer-review process; and

  • other practices that compromise the integrity of scholarly publication.

Allegations of misconduct will be assessed and investigated fairly and confidentially. Where necessary, the journal may request supporting documents, original data, activity records, consent documentation, or clarification from the authors or their affiliated institution.

The journal may follow relevant COPE guidance when handling allegations of misconduct.

8. Responsibilities of Editors

  1. Managing manuscripts fairly, objectively, and transparently.

  2. Maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.

  3. Selecting appropriate and independent reviewers.

  4. Ensuring that editorial decisions are based on academic and scholarly considerations.

  5. Managing conflicts of interest appropriately.

  6. Responding to allegations of misconduct and ethical concerns.

  7. Protecting the integrity of the published scholarly record.

  8. Considering corrections, Expressions of Concern, and retractions when necessary.

  9. Handling complaints and appeals fairly and appropriately.

Editors must not use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts for personal advantage or research purposes without appropriate permission.

9. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • evaluate manuscripts objectively and constructively;

  • maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;

  • provide clear and evidence-based comments;

  • identify relevant work that has not been appropriately cited;

  • inform the editor of suspected plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other misconduct;

  • disclose any potential conflict of interest;

  • decline the review if they cannot provide an impartial assessment; and

  • complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained during the review process for personal research or other purposes.

10. Peer Review and Confidentiality

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif uses a peer-review process to evaluate submitted manuscripts.

Manuscripts are assessed by reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers should be independent of the authors and should not have conflicts of interest that could compromise the objectivity of their evaluation.

The journal maintains the confidentiality of manuscripts and peer-review correspondence.

Editorial decisions are based on reviewer recommendations, the quality and relevance of the manuscript, and the editor's independent academic judgment.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance of a submitted manuscript.

11. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other interests that may influence or appear to influence the publication process.

Potential conflicts may include:

  • financial support;

  • employment or institutional relationships;

  • personal or professional relationships;

  • collaboration with authors;

  • academic competition; or

  • other interests relevant to the manuscript.

Editors and reviewers should withdraw from handling or reviewing manuscripts when a conflict of interest could compromise their impartiality.

12. Funding and Sponsorship

Authors must disclose sources of funding or financial support for the community service activity and manuscript preparation.

Funding information should accurately reflect the actual source of financial support.

Funders or sponsors should not influence the editorial decision, peer-review process, interpretation of results, or publication of the manuscript.

13. Data Availability and Transparency

Authors should provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand and assess the implementation and outcomes of the reported community service activity.

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, supporting data such as evaluation results, survey instruments, pre-test/post-test results, or other relevant materials may be made available.

Personal, confidential, or sensitive information concerning community participants must not be publicly disclosed without appropriate permission.

When data cannot be shared because of privacy, confidentiality, legal, or ethical restrictions, authors should clearly indicate the applicable limitations.

14. Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Licensing

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

Third-party photographs, figures, instruments, questionnaires, texts, or other copyrighted materials must be appropriately acknowledged and used with permission when required.

Copyright and licensing information for articles published by Jurnal Abdi Inovatif is clearly stated on the journal website and in the published article.

15. Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif recognizes that generative artificial intelligence and other automated tools may assist authors in preparing manuscripts.

Authors may use AI tools for appropriate purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, editing, or formatting. If generative AI is used beyond routine language correction or editing and contributes substantially to the preparation of the manuscript, its use should be disclosed appropriately.

AI tools:

  • cannot be listed as authors or co-authors;

  • cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy or integrity of the manuscript;

  • must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, results, photographs, references, or other research content;

  • must not be used to generate misleading information; and

  • must not be cited as an authoritative scholarly source.

Authors remain fully responsible for verifying all content generated or assisted by AI tools.

Reviewers and editors should not use generative AI tools to generate substantive peer-review reports or editorial decisions because submitted manuscripts may contain confidential information. Any permitted use of automated tools must preserve confidentiality and remain subject to human oversight.

This policy follows current DOAJ recommendations concerning the responsible use of AI and automated tools in scholarly publishing.

16. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer-review procedures, publication processes, or ethical issues to the editorial office through the official journal contact.

Complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, objectively, and confidentially.

An appeal should include clear reasons and relevant evidence. The editor may reconsider a decision when there is evidence of a significant procedural error, misunderstanding, conflict of interest, or relevant information that was not previously considered.

Where necessary, the editor may seek advice from an independent editor or qualified expert.

17. Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif welcomes legitimate scholarly discussion concerning published articles.

Readers who identify substantial errors, inaccuracies, ethical concerns, or potential misconduct are encouraged to contact the editorial office and provide supporting evidence.

The journal may publish corrections, clarifications, Expressions of Concern, or retractions when warranted.

18. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.

A Correction may be published when an error in a published article does not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions.

An Expression of Concern may be issued when substantial concerns have been raised regarding an article but the investigation has not yet reached a definitive conclusion.

A Retraction may be issued when reliable evidence demonstrates that an article contains serious problems, including:

  • fabricated or falsified data;

  • substantial plagiarism;

  • duplicate publication;

  • serious ethical violations;

  • unreliable or invalid findings; or

  • other circumstances that seriously compromise the integrity of the publication.

Corrections and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original article whenever possible.

19. Citation Ethics

Authors are expected to cite sources accurately, appropriately, and only when relevant to the manuscript.

Citation manipulation, including excessive citation of unrelated publications, coercive citation, or inappropriate citation intended primarily to increase citation counts, is not permitted.

Editors and reviewers must not require authors to cite particular articles solely to increase the citation metrics of an individual, journal, institution, or other entity.

20. Handling Allegations of Misconduct

All allegations concerning ethical or publication misconduct will be taken seriously, whether they arise before or after publication.

The journal may conduct an initial assessment and request clarification or supporting evidence from the authors.

Depending on the nature of the allegation, the journal may:

  1. request an explanation from the authors;

  2. request supporting data or documentation;

  3. consult independent experts;

  4. contact the authors' affiliated institution;

  5. follow relevant COPE guidance;

  6. publish a Correction or Expression of Concern; or

  7. retract the article when justified.

The journal will seek to ensure that investigations are conducted fairly, objectively, and confidentially.

21. Commitment to Publication Integrity

Jurnal Abdi Inovatif is committed to maintaining a trustworthy, transparent, and ethical scholarly publishing environment.

The journal continuously reviews and improves its editorial policies and practices in accordance with developments in scholarly publishing and relevant international standards, including the principles promoted by COPE and DOAJ.

The journal's publication ethics policies apply equally to regular issues and special issues or other forms of published content.
